The Hermitage Run has always been set against the breathtaking backdrop of Dyrehaven in North Zealand, a location that holds a special place in the hearts of nature enthusiasts. In 2015, Dyrehaven received the prestigious honor of being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, owing to its historical significance and its role as a sanctuary for more than 2000 fallow deer. Despite the ever-expanding city of Copenhagen, Dyrehaven has retained its serenity, making the Hermitage Run a truly unique experience. It’s no wonder that this event is often lauded as the most beautiful running route in Denmark. The course spans 13.3 kilometers and forms a picturesque figure-eight loop, allowing runners to pass by the magnificent Hermitage Castle not once, but twice during the race.

The roots of the Hermitage Run trace back to 1969 when Dr. Peter Schnohr from KIF and dentist and Olympic skier Svend W. Carlsen from KS envisioned a marathon like no other. With the support of BT, they brought their dream to life in Dyrehaven, creating one of Denmark’s very few running races and the first-ever in Dyrehaven itself. Little did they know that this event would ignite a fitness movement across Denmark. Today, the Hermitage Run proudly stands as Denmark’s most beautiful and unique running race, continuing to inspire and bring together runners from all walks of life.
